Fish Farm in Puerto Leda

良質、安価な栄養源と安定した地場産業の育成を目指す
"Toward stable income resources and rich nutrition at low cost for people in Chaco"

パンタナールを縦断するパラグアイ川は、かつて豊かな水産資源を誇っていました。近年では主として乱獲によって、商品価値のある魚は急速に減少し続けています。流域の住民で、漁で生計を立てている人々が困るようになってきました。この問題に対処するため、当協会では魚の養殖プロジェクトをアスンシオン大学の水産学科と共同で進めています。そして、この1月よりパクー（パラグアイ水系に生息するカラシン科の魚）の稚魚5000匹を導入し、実験的に育てる研究を始めました。

パクーは雑食性で、多様な動植物を食べます。また生命力、繁殖力が旺盛で、環境への適応力も優れています。魚肉も美味しく、食品として栄養に富んでいるので、比較的に高い商品価値があります。私たちは、地場産業の乏しいチャコ地方での増殖、養殖のノウハウを研究し、地元民への技術の普及に取り組んで行きます。

パクーの幼魚, Juvenile Pacu

Paraguay River used to foster abundant fishing resources. In recent years, owing mainly to uncontrolled catching of fish for commercial market, even experienced indegenous fishermen have difficulty in feeding their own family members.

Aiming to save both human and wildlife, the ASDinNSA and the University of Asunción jointly study farming of fresh-water fish, namely pacu (Piaractus mesopotamicus). We made in Puerto Leda farming ponds. Some ponds are prepared to cultivate juvenile pacu born by artificial multiplication; and others, relatively older pacu we catch in crescent lakes in the low season of the Pantanal water, before birds eat them up.

At the end of January, we had five thousand juvenile pacu sent from Asunción by air. Our ambitious researchers carefully take care of them, till the cultured fish grows up enough for commercial value, while studying ways to produce food for fish from locally available plants.

		養殖池の水温を監視 Frequent observation of water temperature is essential for fish farming. すべての養殖池の測定ポイントで、頻繁に水温を監視します。
		パクーの好物 (1) Grass of the Pantanal provides fish with abundant natural food. 水辺でよく繁殖する植物。これの実をパクーが好んで食べる。
		パクーの好物 (2) White wax-palm. Favorite fruit of pacu. シロロウヤシの実。これもパクーの大好物。

		ワニの子がやって来た A young Caiman Yacare visits the nursery for food. Bigger ones, too, may follow. 養殖池にやってきた子ワニ。住み着かれてはいけません。
		パクーの成魚 Grown-up pacu caught in the River. これはパラグァイ川で捕獲したパクーの成魚です。このサイズが食用に好まれます。
		羊毛刈り Sheep have more comfortable days after trimming. 気温が40度を越す日々の続く季節。大きなバリカンで、暑苦しい羊毛をチョキチョキと刈ります。
		プールの補修 Swimming pool repaired. Many tiles are replaced without draining pool water. スイミングプールのタイルと壁を修理しています。水を抜かずに工事する工夫をしています。

		お汁粉 Shiruko (red bean porridge). Nostalgic sweet dessert of Japan vitalizes both brain and muscles. パンタナールの暑さで疲れたときは、甘い汁粉で頭はスッキリ、体もシャッキリ。
		ムルチーニョの客船 Passenger boat from Porto Murtinho visits Puerto Leda with workers for our neighbor. 隣の牧場に労働者を7～8人運んで来たとのことです。定員20名。往復$2,500(食事代別)。片道16時間（順調な場合）
		豚ランド改装中 Pigland renovation. When you visit here, mosquitoes will have been minimized. 大量の蚊が襲ってくる中で、豚小屋の入り口を直し、藪を切り払い、灌木を取り除いて燃やします。皆様のご訪問をお待ちしています。
