感謝とお別れの集い（ディアナ村の小中学校校庭にて 8月31日）
Teachers and children of Diana express gratitude to the volunteers from Japan at farewell session.
第16回国際協力青年奉仕隊の青年男女13名は、8月25日に元気よく成田空港を発ちました。パラグアイ国内はチャーターバスと定期船での移動です。ロマ・プラタからディアナへの途上、先の国際隊を経験した2名が編入。総勢15名となった一行は、ディアナ村とレダ基地を中心に様々な奉仕活動と体験学習を行いました。首都アスンシオンに戻ってからは、abc新聞社訪問、史跡探訪、国会議員への表敬訪問と本会議場の見学、副大統領への表敬訪問、理想郷建設の先駆者である伊藤玄一郎氏との昼食会など、盛りだくさんのプログラムを精力的にこなしました。多くの思い出を抱えて、9月10日、溌剌として成田空港に帰ってきました。
ディアナ村では、古い木造校舎をペンキとニスで、きれいに塗装しました。ペンキ塗装は子供たちには難しい作業ですが、心の交流を深めるために敢えて一緒に作業し、後で時間をかけて手直ししました。休憩時間は、広い校庭いっぱいに、サッカー、大縄跳び、鬼ごっこ、ダンス、似顔絵描きなど、200名にもなる疲れを知らぬ子供たちを相手に全力投球。また森に行って腐葉土を採取したり、生垣造りの苗木を植えたりしました。
特に印象的だったのは、ベニグノ・ヒメネス校長先生の言葉でした。「私たちの学校に日本の青年たちが来てくれると、生徒たちの勉学心がとても高まります。この子供たちは皆さんの到着を、『あと何日』と、毎日指折り数えて待っていました。(日本の青年たちへ)」「日本から来たお兄さん、お姉さんたちは、人々を幸せにしようと大きな志を抱き、よく勉強して大学生に入り、熱心に勉強しています。(生徒たちへ)」「皆さんが行ってしまうと、子供たちの心は空っぽになってしまうのです。でも皆様と過ごした時間を忘れず、人々をもっと幸せにするために、進学を志して勉強に励むでしょう。(感謝とお別れの集いで日本の青年たちへ)」
豪雨のため無人地帯でバスが立往生したり、田んぼのような粘土道を歩いたり、船内で寒さに震えたり、いくつかの小さな試練を乗り越え、言葉の壁も乗り越え、奉仕隊員たちは行く先々で初体験をし、人の愛にふれ、何かを発見し、若い日に多くのかけがえのない体験をしました。いずれもこれからの人生の生きた教材となることでしょう。今年もまたご支援をくださった皆様に、謹んで感謝いたします。
The 16th International Youth Service Team of Japan, consisting of 7 young men and 6 young women, departed for Paraguay on August 25 at Tokyo-Narita Airport and returned there on September 10. After arriving in Asunción, they rode a minibus to Loma Plata, an inland town of Mennonites and stayed overnight. Early next morning, the team left for Puerto Diana in the Chaco via a long and dusty road. Around 13:40, they had a heavy rainfall and the two-wheel-drive minibus was stuck on wet clay road. They were left alone in the vast inhabited land. Fortunately in two hours and a half, they could begin to very slowly run, and in 30 minutes they could get out of the wet area. After the sunset, they arrived at the school of Diana where the principal and kitchen crew welcomed each of the young volunteers.
On the early morning of August 29, the team started to paint the old wooden school building. As the schoolchildren joined the volunteers, the job of painting went faster but less nicely. Painting requires quite a high skill for nice result. However, for the sake of hear-to-heart communication, they worked together and later on the volunteers retouched the work. Then they had a welcoming session with about a hundred boys and girls present at the school. We found the principal was very passionate about educating the children and youth of the community. He made full use of this rare opportunity to inspire his pupils. He said "Every day these children had counted the days till your arrival." To the pupils he said, "Your big brothers and sisters come here from very far away to see you. They have big dreams. They are working very hard in their universities so that they can become capable persons to make people happier." Later, during the thanksgiving and farewell session, he said to the volunteers, "After you leave us, our children's hearts will be empty for some time, but they won't forget the time they have spent with you. They will study harder for university education in order to make our people happier."

マイクロバスが立往生 On the way from Loma Plata to Puerto Diana, we had a heavy rainfall and got stuck. The road was too muddy for our two-wheel-drive minibus to go forward or back. In two hours and a half, the bus could begin to slowly run for 30 minutes, until we could get out of the wet area. ロマ・プラタからディアナに続く長い未舗装の道路。突然の激しい雨に見舞われ、道路がぬかるんで、走行不能に。大ピンチでしたが、2時間半後、徐行しながら脱出できました。（8月28日） |

奉仕隊を歓迎する大きなケーキ It was completely dark when we arrived at the school of Diana. The principal was eagerly waiting for us and very glad at our safe arrival. Specially chosen cooks had prepared a nice dinner for us to enjoy in one of the classrooms. 古い木造校舎をペンキ塗装 Early next morning, we started painting in white the upper zone of the older wooden school building. It was rainy and schoolchildren stayed home. 雨の日、雨合羽を着ての作業になりました。柄の長いローラーや刷毛を使って、古い木造校舎の羽目板の上部を、白い水性ペンキで塗装しました。（8月29日） |

生徒たちに話すヒメネス校長 Principal Mr. Benigno Giménez gave a welcoming speech to the volunteers: every day they counted the days until this day. Then he spoke to the boys and girls: these big brothers and sisters are studying very hard for big dreams to make people happier. 皆で指折り数えて待っていた日本の青年たちが私たちの学校に来てくれました。このお兄さん、お姉さんたちは、人々を幸せにしようと大きな志を抱き、よく勉強して大学生になりました。（8月29日） |

一人一人にプレゼント Handed to each child was a gift bag containing a T-shirt, a large towel and a white cap donated by the JRCC (Japan Relief Clothing Center) and also notebooks, pencils, an erasing rubber, a pencil sharpener and a box of crayons from our supporters. 日本救援衣料センターから贈られたＴシャツ、タオル、野球帽、そして当法人が準備したノート、鉛筆、消しゴム、鉛筆削り、クレヨンセットほかの文具が詰められた小袋を、一人ずつ約200名全員に手渡しました。（8月29日） |

大人気、スマホ自撮り！ Children should experience beautiful music, paintings, literature, and inspiring science and technology, beside vivid nature which is already abundant in the Pantanal. 10年前は、デジカメで撮影し、再生して見せてやりました。その当時も大人気を博しましたが、今はスマホの鏡像をリアルタイムで見られ、興奮度も倍増。子供たちにもっと科学への興味を持たせる環境が望まれます。（8月29日） |

小さい手と大きい手を合わせ Painting requires quite a high skill for beautiful result. Here a small hand is assisted by a big hand. Most parts where children painted by themselves had to be retouched later with big hands. 午後は、羽目板の下部を、緑色の油性ペンキで塗りました。これはスキルが必要で、小さな子供には難しい作業。 競って塗りたがる子供たちの手に手を添えます。子供たちだけで塗った部分は、後で手直ししました。（8月29日） |

遊ぶのに言葉は不要だった In the community of Diana, they speak Chamacoco in daily life. Elder pupils understand Spanish, too, but not English. Japanese volunteers quickly understand how to play the game somehow. どんなルールの遊びなのか分かりませんが、日本の青年たちは始めから一緒に遊んでいました。他に、サッカー、フリスビー、大縄跳び、手押し相撲、あっち向いてホイ、似顔絵かきなどで、広い校庭いっぱいに、お祭りのようでした。（8月30日） |

塗装の完了した木造校舎 Beautiful blue skies at last. We varnished doors and window frames and put all materials in order. The finished school looked very nice to everyone's satisfaction including that for work and way of working. 最後に木のドアと窓枠にニスを塗り、後片付けをして終了。やっと出た青い空に映える校舎を見ると、気分も爽快でした。（8月30日） |

森で腐葉土を集める We went to the forest near the school to get leaf mold for planting young trees. They plan to put hedges along the classrooms. 校舎に沿って生垣を造るために、まず森に行って、腐葉土を集めてきました。（8月30日） |

木を植えたら、「ビバー！」 It is almost a tradition that volunteers shout "Viva!" (Live long!) when they complete planting a young tree. They wish healthy growth of the tree and love they plant at the same place at the same time. 1本植えるごとに「ビバー！」と叫ぶのが、奉仕隊の伝統みたいになっています。（8月30日） |

寄贈した埋め込み式黒板 Prior to the volunteers' arrival, the FDSANS had made and donated an embedded form of blackboard for each of the three classrooms of the newer building. 2003年に私たちが建造、贈呈したコンクリート造りの校舎の3教室に、埋め込み式の黒板を、奉仕隊の到着の直前に作ってあげました。本物の黒板ペンキを使った、美しい仕上げです。（8月31日） |

先住民の伝統舞踊 Traditional ritual dance of Chamacoco performed at the session of thanksgiving and farewell. They put some new choreographic elements to bless our volunteers. 早くもお別れと感謝の集いです。着ているのはチャマココ族の伝統的祭祀用の衣装ですが、踊りは新作で、奉仕隊への祝福を願ったものだそうです。（8月31日） |

グランドフィナーレ Finally, everybody danced altogether in the large playground like at a big festival. They danced "Abriendo El Camino", "Koi Suru Fortune Cookie", "Swinging Japan", and more. 全員が校庭に広がって、「恋するフォーチュンクッキー」ほかを、にぎやかに踊りました。この後、上の記念撮影をしました。（8月31日） |

涙で別れを惜しむ There was a little time left before the arrival of the two boats "Good Go" and a small duralumin one sent from Puerto Leda for our volunteers. It was a golden moment I love best to see and take pictures." レダ基地から迎えのボートがやってくるまで、しばし交流の時間がありました。ハグしたり、スマホで自撮りしたり、心をつなぐ黄金タイムです。（8月31日） |

船着き場で見送り Children were willing to carry to the shore the heavy suitcases of the volunteers and bulky but not so heavy mattresses. It's naturally not time of laughter, but their eyes talked a lot to young men and ladies getting offshore. 奉仕隊員たちの重いスーツケースなどの荷物を、子供たちの小さな手が競うように取り合って、船着き場まで運んでくれました。（8月31日） |

奉仕隊がレダ基地に到着 The team travelled for 60Km downriver to Puerto Leda. They got on the truckbeds just as the Rev. Moon had done at his visit in the early days of Leda Farm. パラグアイ川を約60Km南に下り、レダ基地に到着しました。この後、レダ基地での習いにしたがい、トラックの荷台に分乗して宿舎に行きました。（8月31日） |

レダの食事はいかが？ Young people were led to the dining hall to enjoy their first meal in Leda. Among the variety of food were Leda products such as pork sausage, fish (piraña) sausage, kamaboko (fish paste) of pacú. Then they took a shower and washed with their hands their clothes which had sweat, mud and some paint. さっそく大食堂に案内され、ピラニアの魚肉ソーセージ、パクーのかまぼこなどを含む、昼食をいただきました。食後は、シャワーを浴び、汗や土のしみ込んだ衣類を洗濯場で洗いました。 |

カピバラハウス Casa de Carpincho. (Capybara House) A capybara is a wary animal. You should keep quiet and approach them slowly from front. Give fresh green grass and they will eat it normally. カピバラは用心深い獣です。驚かすと逃げますが、静かに青草を差し出すと、近寄って来て食べます。生まれたばかりの赤ちゃんもいました。（8月31日） |

川岸で朝の体操 They lined up in a row upon the bank of the Paraguay. The golden sun rose from the Brazilian horizon beyond the eastern bank. They did a gymnastic exercise and jumped at the request of the cameraman. パラグアイ川の対岸、ブラジルの地平線から太陽が昇ります。一列横隊で朝の体操をし、爽快に一日を出発します。（9月1日） |

小橋氏の研究室 Mr. Kobashi is developing new food products of pork and fish of Leda Farm in the Pantanal Research Center. Every visitor is amazed here as they try sample pieces tasting very good. You will look forward to seeing them on your dining table. パンタナール研究所内にあり、豚肉ソーセージ、魚肉ソーセージ、かまぼこ、ほか食品の研究開発をしています。レダブランドの食品が市場に流通する日も、遠くなさそうです。（9月1日） |

タロイモの収穫作業を体験 Taro grows very fat and fast. The central root stock produces around itself new ones and each of them produces around themselves more and more. It can be a solution to the problem of the world's food shortage. Good as food for people and animals. 親芋の周りに子芋が、子芋の周りに孫芋ができ、どんどん肥大します。副大統領もここに来て、人類の食料問題の解決に、タロイモの秘めた可能性を熱く語りました。日本のサトイモもタロイモの1種です。（9月1日） |

タロイモを川辺で洗う After harvesting taro, you have to wash, peal, and store it in a cool place as soon as possible. Leaves can be food of your domestic animals. Powdered taro will have a long life and can be sold at food markets. タロイモは、人間の食料としてはもちろん、魚や家畜の飼料としても大変に有用です。収穫したら、すぐに水洗いし、皮を剥いて保存します。（9月1日） |

養殖パクーの追い込みを体験 Holding a wide net, they enter the farming pond and corner pacú to the opposite bank. To prevent fish from escaping, you have to keep the net contacting the bottom of the pond. 皆で大きな網を持って養殖池に入り、魚を追い込んで対岸で網を引き上げます。ときどき魚が体に当たったり、深いところでは体が浮きそうになったりしました。（9月1日） |

パクーの内臓を除去する Just like taro, harvested pacú has to be processed as soon as possible. They open the fish, remove its internal organs, clean the body thoroughly, and store it in the freezer. For beginners, they will show you how to use a fish knife. 収獲したパクーは、約2Kgに成長しています。直ちに処理場で内臓を除去し、きれいに洗浄してから冷凍保存します。包丁で魚の腹を開くのは、初心者の場合、コツを掴むまで悪戦苦闘するかも知れません。（9月1日） |

開墾作業を体験 Symbolic experience of pioneering a ground for living and working. As in the early days, everyone used an axe to cut down palm trees. Some of those beginners struggled even for half an hour per tree and got blisters in their own palms. ヤシの木の繁殖力はすさまじく、土地を放置すればヤシ林ばかりになってしまいます。初期の開墾作業を追体験するため、斧でヤシの木を伐採しました。熟練者は1分弱で1本切ることができますが、初心者は30分以上かかることも。（9月1日） |

口蹄疫の予防接種を見学 They went to the coral and observed vaccination against foot-and-mouth disease. Beef is one of the major products exported from Paraguay. The central government is strict to control the disease and all cattle must be vaccinated one by one. 毎年1回か2回、口蹄疫の予防接種が行われます。すべての牛を集積場に集め、狭い通路を1頭ずつ歩かせて、注射器ですばやく摂取します。牛肉が重要な輸出品であるパラグアイでは、口蹄疫の発生を完全に抑止しています。（9月2日） |

ピラニアが釣れた！ Experience of fishing with a rod. Many species of fierce fish live in the Paraguay. For beginners, piraña is abundant and easy to hook but difficult to unhook. Its teeth are very sharp and dangerous. 釣り体験は、奉仕隊の必修科目の一つ。ピラニアの歯は大変に鋭くて危険ですが、ここで釣った頭の丸い種は、美味しく食べることができます。初心者は自分で釣り針を外さない方がいいでしょう。（9月2日） |

すごい釣果！ Great fishing result! The majority was piraña. Among others were pacú, dorado, dogfish, piraputanga, and some catfish. この日は大漁で、釣った魚を数えませんでした。ピラニアのほか、パクー、ドラド、カショーロ、ナマズなども釣れました。（9月2日） |

乗馬を体験 Experience of horse riding. This is the last of the Leda programs for the volunteer team. Those horses are well trained and even beginners can hold the reins in their hands. 最終プログラムは、乗馬体験です。よく調教された馬なので、初心者でも自分で手綱を持つことができます。近くには七面鳥の一家もいました。（9月2日） |

アキダバンがやって来た Cargo-passenger boat Aquidaban. It takes 18 to 19 hours to Vallemi port. They could sleep in the reserved cabins, although the air was rather cold on the river. They rode a chartered bus from Vallemi to Asunción. 貨客船アキダバンの下り便がやって来ました。レダ基地からバジェミ港まで、18～19時間の船旅です。予約してあった船室で、休むことができましたが、夜はかなり寒い思いをした人もいました。（9月2日～3日） |

サッカーでアスンシオンの青年たちと交流 On Sunday afternoon, the volunteer team enjoyed playing soccer with members of the Church of Asunción. Our men won by 1-0, and our ladies lost by 0-4. We were amazed at young female Paraguayan players' power and speed. 日曜日の午後、アスンシオンの若者たちと、男女別にサッカーを楽しみました。奉仕隊vsパラグアイチームの対抗戦では、男子が1-0で辛勝、女子が0-4で惜敗しました。（9月4日） |

ブラジル鳥の公園 On the way to Iguazu Falls, we visited Bird Park in Brazil. You can go in huge cages and watch birds without meshes or grids between you and them. The volunteers often stopped to gaze at colorful macaws, toucans of lovely eyes, exotic guans, curassows, etc. 大型のインコを腕に乗せて、一人ずつ撮影することができます。背の青いのはルリコンゴウインコ。（9月6日） |

世界自然遺産イグアスの滝 With a passionate recommendation by Mr. Sano, every volunteer team from Japan visits Iguazu Falls. Seeing the awesome wonder of Creation, the young people feel something inspiring in their spirits, hearts, and brains. この壮大な被造物を見ると、日常にはない何かを感じることができます。激しい水煙で濡れるので、簡単なビニール合羽を用意しましょう。（9月6日） |

abc新聞社を表敬訪問 On the day before their departure to Japan, the team visited Asunción-based daily abc. The reporter Mr. Velázquez asked them what impression they had through their activities in Paraguay. 国会本会議場に着席 The team visited Congressman Mr. Adorno at his office in the Congress Building. He proudly showed them many photos he had taken in Korea last winter. He guided them to the Congress Hall and the volunteers took seats for a commemorative photo. 歴史遺産の旧国会の建物を見学した後、現国会議事堂に行きました。アルト・パラグアイ州選出の、ミルノ・アドルノ議員の案内により、上院本会議場内を見学。（9月7日） |

大統領府へ This morning Princess Mako of Japan was arriving and the Presidential Palace was decorated with many national flags of Paraguay and Japan. パラグアイ川に面した側が表玄関で、こちらは裏庭です。この日パラグアイに到着された眞子さまの歓迎行事のため、日本とパラグアイの国旗がたくさん飾られていました。（9月7日） |

歓迎の日・パ両国旗 With many bright flags and fireworks sounding in the skies of the capital, it was as if Paraguay was welcoming those volunteers from Japan. 折しも、ドン、ドドン、と花火が打ち上げられ、あたかも奉仕隊を歓迎しているかのようでした。喜ぶ私たちの傍らで、衛兵たちが見ています。（9月7日） |

アファラ副大統領を訪問 The team then visited Vice President Mr. Juan Afara at the official residence. He likes vivid young people. He asked each member about age, major study, job, hometown, etc. フアン・アファラ副大統領は、元気な若者が大好き。奉仕隊の一人ずつ、何を学んでいるか尋ねられました。（9月7日） |

お土産ショッピング Late afternoon, they had a pleasant shopping time. Around the Pantheon of National Heroes, they looked for nice gifts for their parents, brothers and sisters and friends. ここで工芸品やＴシャツなどを物色し、日本の家族や兄弟姉妹にお土産を買いました。定価販売なので、値段の交渉はなく、ぼられる心配もありません。この後、スーパーに行って、マテ茶や南米のチョコレートを買いました。（9月7日） |

参加したボランティアたちの感想文より（抜粋）
● 村の子供たちは、本当に可愛かったです。物もあまりなく、遊び方もあまり多く知らない、私たちとは地理も文化も正に逆でした。ここに来なければ絶対に知らなかったことです。縄跳びを教えてあげました。彼らはルールを知らなかったので、言葉の通じない中で手本をやって見せました。手本通りにならなかったのは、順番を守ること、入る方向、タイミングでした。ここで気がついたのが、遊びながら学んでいた自分の子供時代、日本の文化の素晴らしさでした。順番を守ることがなぜ必要なのかを、縄跳びを通じて、人を育てる立場からの大切さや意味を悟りました。本当に、少しずつ、少しずつ、中には最後の最後になって、初めてみんなが順番を守っていくということを達成しました。こんな簡単な遊びの中からでも、とても大切なことを拾えたことは感謝です。子供たちは本当に可愛く、また会いに行きたいです。(男性)
● 大自然をこの目で見て、改めて神様の力は素晴らしいと心から感じました。日本の反対側に来て、日本にはないものが多く存在し、私は価値観が大きく変わりました。(男性)
● 一人一人が輝いていて、私自身も自然と皆を愛したい、何か為に生きたいという思いが強くなり、一瞬一瞬が本当に貴重で、その場にいるだけでも幸せでした。(女性)
●今回参加させてもらい、心と体でいろんな経験をして、また一回り成長したなと実感しました。早く帰って、家族に話したいです。来年この地に必ず戻って来て、開拓できたらいいなと思いました。(男性)
● 朝は鶏の声で目を覚まし、動物と一緒に暮らして、雨が降ったら学校は休み、川で遊んだり洗濯したり、自然と一体になって過ごすのが本然の生き方なんだなと感じました。ディアナの人々は、貧しいというより、シンプルな生活をしていて、決して不幸ではないということ、これは大きな発見でした。(女性)
● 今回は体験だけでしたが、必ずもう一度来て、次世代として貢献して行きたいと強く思いました。(女性)
● 開拓体験でのヤシの木は思った以上に大変で、話を聞くだけ、見るだけじゃ理解できないこと、実践してみてこの地を開拓することの難しさを思い知りました。何事も無理だからとか言って諦めずに、やり続けることが大事なのだなと、たった一本の木からでも多くの事を感じることができました。(女性)
● 雄大で、原始の姿を保っている自然は、空も川も動物も植物も、どの一つをとっても美しく、神様の造化の美を感じました。鳥一羽を見続けていても、飽きない魅力がありました。(男性)
● ディアナ村の方々とは始め、話しかけることそのものが気後れしてしまっていました。でも、共に作業に取り組んだり、遊んだりするうちに、「話をもっとしてみたい」「もっとこの人を喜ばせたい」と思えるようになってきました。私は人々の似顔絵を描きましたが、自分の描いた絵を見て笑ったり、友達と何か言い合ったりしている様子を見て、「絵を描いていて良かった」と心の底から思いました。また言葉が通じなくても伝えることができる力が美術などにもあるということを強く感じました。できることなら、美術の世界をもって証を立てていくことのできる私になりたいです。今回の訪問を通して、ディアナの子供たちが、可能性を広げ、さまざまな夢を持つきっかけになればと願います。またパラグアイの豊かで広大な自然は、大きな感動と神様の愛を感じさせてくれました。それは期待よりはるかに、素晴らしくも厳しい世界でした。ディアナまでの道の、熱く乾いた大地。しかし雨が降ると一変して一歩進むことも困難な泥土に。作物も育たない土地は、全く予想の外にありました。また身をもって寒い冬のパラグアイの過酷さを知りました。そんな環境の中でも逞しく生きている人々がいました。満天の星空や、広大なパラグアイ川、飛び交い鳴き交わす鳥や動物たち、雲や真っ青の大空、青々と茂る植物たちは、神様の創造の力、大きな愛の力を感じさせてくれました。(男性)
