年末年始の繁殖期に行われるパクーの人工孵化は、5期目になりました。基礎研究の段階から国立アスンシオン大学との連携で進められてきた養殖プロジェクトは、今期より放流魚へのタグ打ちが本格化し、生態研究および養殖技術の普及に向けて、質・量ともに一層ハイレベルで進められます。

レダ基地では、去る12月22日に産卵・孵化したパクーの仔魚を孵化器で育て、同月28日に養殖池に放しました。今期は水や電気などに問題がなく、今までになく順調な経過をたどり、元気な稚魚が育ちました。

新年を迎え、1月4日、アスンシオン大学水産学科のマグノ教授を迎えました。翌5日にはパクーの親魚を養殖池より捕獲して選定（写真上）。以後、授精・孵化へと進みました。

養殖池では、先期に孵化した満一歳の若魚たちも元気に育っています。個体ごとに体重とサイズを測定・記録し、マグノ教授が器具を使って番号の付いたタグをパクーの背に打ち込んでゆきました。放流後にどこかで捕獲されると、すぐに照合ができるようになっています。放流されたパクーの生態調査が進めば、パラグアイ川沿岸における水産資源の回復への貢献が期待されます。中央政府も、沿岸の各自治体政府も、多大な関心と期待を寄せています。

今後、パクーに加えて、アストロの養殖にも可能性があります。マグノ教授も以前から研究している種で、生命力はきわめて強靭です。成魚の体長は30cm以上。レダ近辺にも多数生息し、煮付けを試食したら、びっくりするほど上等な食味でした。水際をゆったりと泳ぐこの魚は、フライフィッシングも楽しめます。日本の熱帯魚店では、オスカーという名で売られています。

In Leda Farm, they had the fifth season of fish incubation from December to January. With very careful preparation, this time they had an excellent mother fish for the multiplication of pacú. At the first trial, they could incubate more than two hundred thousand fertilized eggs into larvae on the 22nd of Dec. and put them into the farming pond on the 28th. They proved to be good students of Professor Magno, this time again.

On the 4th of Jan. Professor Magno arrived at Puerto Leda. Next day, they started choice of parents, fertilization, and incubation. Everything went on without problems of electricity, water, etc. and many more fingerlings were growing in the ponds.

Professor Magno is planning to attach more than eight hundred adult pacú with an ID tag on each body and release them into the Paraguay for scientific research on the life of released fish. He and the staff of Leda Farm will work together for the project in the coming release event.

They are planning to expand the project of aquiculture in Leda farm: they will research on cultivating salt-water and brackish water fishes; and Astro, another species of fresh water fish. They dag a well to get pure salt-water and found that it's as exactly salty as sea water. See photos below.

		卵と精子をやさしくかき混ぜる Gently, gently, mix sperms with eggs. 選別された父魚から採取した精子と成熟卵とを混合する。緩やかに流れる川のイメージ。
		受精卵を孵化器に移す Fertilized eggs are put into incubators, in which fresh and clean water at the appropriate temperature circulates gently and constantly. 絶えず新鮮な水の流れる孵化器の中で、ボウフラのように小さな仔魚が誕生する。仔魚はプランクトンを食べて育つが、プランクトンに食べられることもある。水の管理が極めて重要。

		孵化した仔魚を容器に移す Larval pacú will grow in the protected environment inside preservation boxes. Later, fingerlings will grow in farming ponds. 仔魚時代を保護された環境で過ごし、その後、稚魚～若魚時代を養殖池で過ごす。
		やや成長したパクーの稚魚 Very young pacú has black spots on the body. In the nature, fish-eating fish and wading birds make prey of them. パクーの稚魚には黒い斑点があって、一見、別の種のようにも見える。野生ではまだ他の肉食魚や大柄の渉禽類（水鳥）に狙われる恐れがある。
		さらに成長したパクーの稚魚 Young and small pacú grown up to have almost the same figure and colors as adults. Most of them can survive in the river. 体はまだ小さいが、成魚とほぼ同じ姿になった。筋力も強靭になり、ピラニアによる捕食も免れ得る。
		商品サイズ以上になったパクーの成魚 Full-grown pacú. They sell pacú when it reaches arounf 2 Kg of weight, but this one somehow escaped from the net and grew this big. この個体はかなり大きいが、商品としてのパクーは、体重2Kgほどに成長したものが、最も経済効率が高いという。天然ものでは、体長50～60cmのサイズが釣って最も面白い。

		パクーの背にタグを打ちこむ。 Every fish is attached with an ID tag for ecological research of pacú to be released into the Paraguay River. パクーの生態研究のため、個体ごと特有のID番号を記したタグが打たれ、捕獲されたときに照合できる。次回の放流では、800匹にタグを打ちたいという。
		放流する魚の計測とタグ打ち They measure length, weight, etc. of pacú immediately before release. If you catch pacú with an ID tag, take it to the local municipal office and receive reward. 放流する直前に、体長、体重などを記録する。タグの打たれた個体を捕獲して届け出ると、薄謝が与えられる。
		アストロ Astro, Astronotus ocellatus, or Oscar in the tropical fish market in your country. Tasty, tough, easy to catch and handle (without sharp teeth). パクーに続く養殖魚として期待される、美味しくて強健な種。鋭い歯がなく、釣りの初心者や子供でも容易に扱える。日本ではオスカーという名で、熱帯魚店やペットショップで売られている。
		井戸を掘って、高純度の塩水を採掘 Digging a well to get salty water from underground. It is not only pure but also as exactly salty as sea water according to Mr. Okusako's scientific analysis. かつて海底であったとされるこの地域は、地面を掘ると塩水が湧き出る。その成分を分析したところ、海水と全く同じ塩分濃度で、不純物が極めて少ないことが分かった。

		塩水・汽水魚介類の養殖研究施設を建設中 New building under construction. It will be used for research of aquiculture of salt water and brackish water fishes. They may begin it with giant river prawn. 塩水魚介類として、まずテナガエビの養殖を研究する。テナガエビは汽水域で誕生し、成長すると淡水に移動する。
		訪問客の多い試作室を改装 Laboratory of fish product re-covered. Mr. Kobashi develops new fish products such as Kamaboko and fillet of pacú and sausage of piraña. All visitors are amazed at the rich flavor of Leda products. He wishes they get a freezer boat for marketing. 小橋氏が開発したパクーのフィレやかまぼこ、ピラニアのソーセージなどは、舌の肥えた訪問客を唸らせている。首都アスンシオンでもレダブランドの水産加工品が市場に出回ることを望む声は強い。冷凍運搬船を欲しいと小橋氏。
		アスンシオンから新しい貨物船が就航 New cargo boat enters service. It comes from Asunción twice a month. People along the Paraguay can now enjoy better transport. Aquidaban remains as the weekly cargo-passenger boat for this area. 従来、貨客船アキダバンが週に一便あるだけだったのが、この新しい貨物船は月2回来ることになっている。物流がかなり改善されると期待が高い。
		動物公園の造成準備の調査 For the sake of visitors who are interested in wildlife, a small animal park is being planned. They don't want to see you disappointed, as it is a matter of luck to see caimans, rheas, capybara, etc. so far. レダを訪れる人々に、パンタナールの生きものを確実に見てもらえるように、自然界と極力同じ環境を備えた動物公園を企画中。
