The third release of pacú fry into the Paraguay
アスンシオン大学との連携＝水産資源回復と地場産業育成へ
Joint effort for restoration of biological resource of the Paraguay and promotion of local industry.
大きく健康的に成長したパクーを放流した。
Large and healthy pacú released. Grown up to this size, most of the young fish will survive fish eaters.
5月8日、レダ基地において、第3回パクー稚魚放流式典が成功裏に催されました。式典では、国立アスンシオン大学獣医学部長ホアン・カバジェロ博士が「これからは魚を獲ることを教えるのでなく、増やすことを教えなければなりません。パラグアイ川流域では魚が急速に減少しています。将来を考えれば、食糧としての魚の養殖は大変に貴重です」と強調されました。また同行した水産学科長エドガー・バルブエナ博士も「私も全面的協力を惜しみません。パラグアイ川の魚は重要な食糧資源です」と語られました。
また、先住民を代表して、エスぺランサ村のバルボーサ首長が「南北米の皆様に心から感謝申し上げます。神様のもとに一つ、こうして私にも話す場を与えてくれたことに感謝します。5万匹の放流は大変重要です。ありがとうございます。事故や急病など困難な時、いつもレダの人たちが病院（オリンポ市など）に連れて行ってくれ、私たちを助けてくれました。また今日はこの場にたくさんの住民の招待をいただき、深く感謝いたします」と挨拶しました。
これまでの実績で、私たちのチャコ地方におけるパクー養殖と放流の成功が国家の指導部に希望的に受け止められました。今回の放流式では、次の段階として国立大学および地元自治体との連携による技術レベルの向上、漁民の教育、産業の育成など、実務的なレベルでのさらなる発展を期すものとなりました。
On May 8, in Puerto Leda, we released about 50,000 young pacú into the Paraguay River. At the Release Ceremony, Dr. Juan Caballero, Dean of School of Veterinary Sciences, National University of Asunción, made a vital address: he emphasized, "It's time to teach how to multiply fish rather than how to catch fish. The population of fish in the Paraguay is rapidly decreasing. It is very valuable to cultivate fish as food for the time coming." Dr. Edgar Balbuena, Chairman of the Department of Fisheries Science of the School added, "We are fully ready to cooperate with you. Fish of the Paraguay is a precious resource of food."
Then, Mr. Froilan Barbosa, Chief of the Community of Esperanza, spoke as a representative of indigenous neighbors, "We are thankful to the people of the FDSANS (ASD in NSA) from the depth of heart. Thank you very much for bringing us into one under God, inviting many of us here, and giving us a chance to speak here today. How much you have been helping us! You saved us when we were seriously injured or ill by taking us to hospitals (in Fuerte Olimpo, etc.)"
So far, the leaders of the central government of the Republic have seen a good hope in our efforts of fish cultivation, particularily through attending the two previous release ceremonies of pacú fry into the Paraguay last year and the year before last. The Third Ceremony this year is for the next step: more substantial development of the project especially in the practical fields such as technical improvement of incubation and cultivation, education of skills and ethics for those who live on fishery, promotion of local industry, etc. in joint efforts of the National University, the local governments, and ourselves.

近隣の村人、生徒たちも放流式典に More than one hundred young boys and girls from the indigenous community of Esperanza attend the ceremony. They are much encouraged to learn ethics and skills to reserve nature and enrich their community. エスぺランサ村からは100名余りの生徒たちが到着し、若々しい雰囲気になりました。彼らの意識を高める上でよいことでした。 |

放流魚の生態調査にむけて Professor Magno is to begin biological research of released pacú weighing 800 grams or more when released. You will win a prize if you catch a marked pacú and present it to him. Many of released pacú will travel very long, even over 1,000Km or so. 今後は800グラム以上になった幼魚に印をつけ、移動状況など生態調査を行います。印のある魚を釣った人が申告すれば賞品を授与します。（マグノ教授） |

昼夜突貫の堤防建設 The suitable season for civil work in the Pantanal is very short. They work day and night, seven days a week. 土木工事に適した期間は、土のぬかるまない乾季で、しかもパラグアイ川が低水位の季節ですが、長くはありません。建設会社では多くの重機を用いて、休みなく工事を続けています。 |
