パクー養殖とタロイモ栽培に大きな期待
Hope and Expectation for Farming Pacú and Taro

6月30日、副大統領と国会議員ら20数名一行をレダ基地に迎えました。一行は、去る5月6日の放流式に参加するためレダ基地上空まで飛んで来ながら、悪天候で飛行機が着陸できず、残念な思いを抱きながら、今回の機会を待っていました。
アファラ副大統領は、一昨年以来、二度目の来訪です。レダ基地の活動に非常に感銘されていて、8名の国会議員たちを前に、レダプロジェクトの価値を直接訴えられていました。タロイモ水田では芋を切り出して口にし、「自分はタロイモの父になって広めたい」と口にされました。タロイモからパウダーを作るプロジェクトは人類の飢餓問題の克服につながるので、粉を作る機械を提供したいとも表明されました。またパクーの孵化と放流にも高い評価をされ、「レダはパクーとタロイモの事業をやるだけで十分価値がある」と強調されました。
今回のパクー稚魚放流とレダ基地のツアーには、カサドの市長、パラグアイの平和大使など、女性も数名参加しました。
On June 30, His Excellency Vice President Juan Afara and eight Members of the National Congress and other VIP's visited Leda Farm. They originally intended to participate in the Fourth Pacú Fry Release Ceremony held on the 6th of May, but their planes could not land at Leda airfield due to heavy rain and muddy ground that day. Now this day, the skies were clear and the runway hard enough, they could happily land at Leda and released pacú fry into the Paraguay.
Then, they had a mini tour in Leda Farm. Mr. Vice President already found the hopeful potential of taro culture as food for mankind and animals. He even lectured the merits of cultivating taro to the Members of the National Congress who were there. He is thinking to introduce a machine mill to produce taro powder.
Mr. Nakata and Mr. Sano, directors of Leda Project, shared with the guests, who are also leaders of the nation, the future expectation of Paraguay and the Chaco.
The Second International Volunteer Team paid a courtesy visit to the Vice President at his Office in July and offered him a specially designed T-shirt with an illustration of taro, by the way.
Pacú and taro have inherent power as animal and plant for sustainable production and will represent the Pantanal Spirit which our founder taught us at the end of last century.
